Major General Henry Schmidt, "the Dutchman", commanded the V Amphibious Corps, consisting of the Third, Fourth and Fifth Marine divisions, during the assault on Iwo Jima in 1945.
Sorry, but i think tomtom is incorrect, I believe it was General Holland "Howlin Mad" Smith, he was the commander of the Corps through the course of the war,

They belonged to the Waffen-SS and faught in the west and east front- most members of the division were born in 1926, recruited by the HJ
