USC vs. OSU

Wow, already back up to #6 in the AP and #4 in the coaches poll? USC shouldn't get special treatment just because the NFL doesn't have a franchise in LA right now, unbelievable, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and BYU have done everything that USC has accomplished except lose a game, and against tougher opponents in the case of OSU and BYU. With such a weak schedule USC should have to go undefeated to get a shot at the title game, unless the teams from the Big 12 and SEC lose two games each, but no, they just have to let everybody else beat the crap out of each other and everything will be solved.

The Pac-10 is the only reason I'd support a playoff system for college football. Gahh, my Native American Day is ruined now.

Don't forget Ohio State, who despite having lost only to the #1 team in the country is ranked 12th.

Ohio State's drop out of the top ten was, in my opinion, pretty generous also given how they didn't show up against USC, and they're far enough out that they need to win out the rest of their games AND rely on several teams to lose once, some twice, to get a shot. USC, Florida and Oklahoma had their shots, only OU could really walk away from their game with their heads held high because at least the lost to a team who wasn't a double digit favorite. And even though this topic isn't about Florida, I'm lashing out at that pick too, moving up seven spots, leap frogging two undefeated teams? Where my BS flag? Consider this, if Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, BYU, USC and Texas all finish the season with no more losses it will most likely be USC and Texas in the title game, hardly seems fair that a team who has already proven on the field that they can be defeated should get a chance to play for a title over teams that have gone out and got the job done every saturday for three months. Ohio State may only have one loss but they don't exactly have any impressive wins, my D-1AA school beat Youngstown St. 40-7 the week after Ohio State beat them 43-0.

I guess my whole point here is teams who have already loss have shown themselves to be vulnerable, infallible, and beatable, the team who are undefeated have gone out there and taken care of business every week. Given the lack of a playoff system I think it's deplorable that so many one-loss teams are in the top 10 ahead of undefeated teams in the top 10.

But Ohio State loses to the #1 team in the country, and falls 12 places. USC loses to OREGON STATE and falls 6. LSU loses by 30 to #7 and falls 9 places. Something doesn't add up... why does a Ohio State team without their starting RB fall more than a USC or LSU?

Because their wins were not very impressive, LSU and USC were playing sub-par teams and beating them in a way a title contender should win against vastly inferior foes. Plus keep in mind that two other top five teams and four other top ten teams lost in the same week that USC lost to Oregon State.

you are asking questions like there aren't humans behind the decision. Ask the coaches and the writers on why and how they vote. They are the ones that make these polls what they are.

i agree, but don't hate the school, hate the folks that rank the school. everyone is making it sound like USC has a vote in the process.

Ah yes, I'll just call up Pete Carroll, since I have him on speed dial, and ask him how he voted and why. Although if memory serves me correctly the coaches' actually votes are kept secret on all but the very last week of rankings.

sports writers make up one poll and coaches another. then the BCS screws it all up.
The BCS feeds off of the inherent problems with the old system, which was favortism to teams that win 70-0 over weakling schools, running up the score in the process. Oklahoma comes to mind, who lead Cincinnati by 10 and controlled the ball with about 7 minutes to play and they tacked on two late cheap TDs because it would look better in the polls. And it worked, didn't it?

BCS doesn't take into account margin of victory or quality wins anymore, the AP poll isn't used either. I believe it's already been said here that Oklahoma is the poster child of running up the score on crappy opponents.

Sooo, yeah, The Horns just knocked the Cowboys out of Austin again. HOOK' EM!

Red Raiders, you're next!

Yeah I think T-Tech has the best chance of taking the Longhorns down. I hope they come prepared to play hard.
