America hasn't been around for a long, long time. Well, not as we know it today. When England and Russia were reaching their Prime, America was just being born. Just though i'd throw that in there.

Hendo, you will notice that i have called you by this name as an indication of amity. It appears that you are somewhat confused.

By your own admission you are a young student who has never travelled outside the USA and has never served in the military, yet you profess to have a great understanding of how persons outside the US view your country. You also realise that the US is disliked intensely and not only by the Muslim nations that you are involved with at the moment.

You ask members on this forum why it is so.

When someone gives you an honest answer, (And others agree), you don't want to hear.

My question is, "Why did you ask the question"

My intent was not to ignore the answer, simply to debate it. I understand that you believe the United States to be wrong in most of it's endeavors. The question I asked is how you think that? I did not mean to be arrogant, just to tell you my views on the United States' actions. Just because I am from America doesn't mean I'm bragging when I talk about it's good qualities to stand up for it... There's a difference between bragging and defending. I think I can refer you to 13th's example about the track team thing.

This flakstorm is nothing... On ARRSE you would have been torn into so many pieces. It has to be said, the guys on here are a lot more mature and adult about things. They don't go overboard with personal attacks.


And in response to your question, hendo, I believe that the U.S.A should keep it's goddamn self to it's goddamn self, and fix it's own problems. It is a relatively new country, and it's social systems (from what i know of them) still need to be fixed, like England's do.

Now, your response... Yes, we have problems, but every country will have problems for ever and ever amen. But, the way I see it, (And I SWEAR I'm not trying to sound arrogant.)the United States' problems are minor compared to those of Iraq, or Vietnam, or Korea. Are they not?
 
You answer above now poses the question. If you believe what you have read from Monty and I (and possibly others), rwhy do you feel that i would suddenly start lying to you when I answered your question as to why the US is disliked in so many countries.

Believe me, you are really "over the top". It is not patriotism, it is jingoism and it is detested all over the world and it is not what is expected of a first world country such as the USA. It is beneath you,... way, waaayyyy,beneath you.

Now, Jingoism is defined as extreme patriotism to the extent of aggressive foreign policy... I wasn't aware I had a foreign policy. I just believe in what's doing right to me.

Henderson, what it is saying to the country is: "you are not good enough to look after yourselves, we know what's best for you and you don't"

Now, think of when your parent's would tell you what they want you to do. it's what they think is best for you, but you don't want them telling you what to do with your life. It's like that. Countries should be there to offer support etc to each other, not to turn around and say "you can't do that, do this"

But most of the time, I do what my parents say, because I know they're doing what's best for me...And I like doing what's best for me. And honestly, is saying "You can't beat women for showing their ankles" really a BAD thing?!


We (well, I) don't want to completely control the country... Just show them what life can be like... Trying to show them that democracy and freedom can be amazing... Our pride does get a little out of control... I suppose to the point of Jingoism... The only blip in our operation truly is that some don't WANT a taste of freedom... I guess those are the people I'd really like to be talking to... Why they don't WANT democracy. Could it be because of the way we present it to them? By forcing it down their throats? Do we treat them like babies treat their green mush?

Are you saying you want your parents to choose your vote? you want your parents to choose your job? your wife? your clothes? that's sort of what america does, but to a country. Make a person a country, and you should get it. but please forgive my mongish-ness, it's 05:51 am over here... i can barely string two words together normally.

Cant see me moving to the western provinces they all talk funny over there,if I had to pick a place over there it would be Adelaide or Perth.

Although I could go for some heat about now.

Not to that extent. Cmon, you know what I meant... I trust my parents when they say that smoking kills you, because I myself have seen that very statement in action. I trust my parents when they tell me to be safe with my drinking, because I've seen THAT go awry. America doesn't force Iraqis to wear certain clothes, or do certain jobs, or that kind of thing... We're trying to do the opposite... Show them that they can choose their OWN clothes, their OWN jobs.
