That's well and good but we're not talking about Americans of a certain ethnicity, we're talking about foreigners who enter the country illegally. Doesn't matter what color you are; if you refuse to assimilate and would rather change our nation to better suit you you can get the hell out.
Yes and no. It's not all black and white and spelled out. Is Illegal Immigration a problem? Short answer is yes. Long answer is why does it occur and how do we fix it.
And as much as everyone likes to hem and haw and evade the issue and say "Oh were talking about all ethnicities." in reality you are not. She knows it, I know, my Tio Felix knows. When anyone decides to discuss illegal immigration, in reality I'd just prefer you said what your thinking "Them Mescan's". To be fair Latino's make up the largest illegal immigrant percentage in the country so lets stop beating around the bush. I won't even complain that there also El Salvadoran, Honduran, etc etc. Hell we all look alike right. The influx of Latino's is what the whole discussion is about, thats why the fence (thank god theres no shovels or ladders in Mexico...otherwise they'd figure a way over that.) is being built on the Southern Border, not on the Northern Border. So lets be real.
Assimilation.Yes immigrants should assimilate. Most do. Yet every immigrant community has brought something and has established their own comfort zone. Little Italy, Little Odessa, China Town, Korea Town, Little Tokyo, Little Saigon, see where I'm going with this? It generally takes at least one generation to assimilate, older people have a tougher time. It's not easy to be living one place one day, speaking one language and then the next having people wanting you to say " Wow Biff thats a wicked sick Beamer." the next.
Change what? Are you offended that spanish is spoken in public, are we talking about you? (MAYBE). What exactly is being changed? What is it that they are changing to suit "them"?
Then lets get into to why they come. Say Pablo works 12 hours a day at a factory, lets say this factory is oh I dunno...Mattel. Pablo makes about 500 Peso's a week. Pablo has a wife and dos nino's. 500 peso's at the current exchange rate is roughly 50 bucks. Now Pablo pays rent lives with family, so he kicks in on that and utilities and whatnot. Buying milk for the kiddies well a gallon is gonna set him back at least 80 peso's, a chicken 20, etc etc. The dinero don't go far.
Now across Rio Bravo once he's risked his life, paid a coyote and made it past Los Limones. He can get a job the gabachos won't take for Double or triple what he makes. He can live frugaly and send money home to his family. Buy a house. Buy a business. Buy a car. It's human nature to better yourself and it's simple economics.
Should Pablo get a visa? Sure. Can he? Probably not. It's stacked against him. He has to prove that he already has property and money to return to.
So say Pablo gets here and decides to "fix" his papers because he wants to remain legally. Perhaps bring his family. Gets a lawyer. Applies for LPR status. Well now he has to deal with a bunch of bureaucrats at Migra who interpret the law as they see fit, not how it's written. So Pablo has put himself on Migras radar. Pretty soon Pablo, who was trying to do the right thing gets removed cause it's much easier to deport people if you know where they are instead of actually looking for them. Pablo decides he'll come back but this time he won't make the mistake of trying to do the right thing.
The short of it is this. As long as Gringolandia is here, they are coming. The system is broke. The system needs to be fixed. The blame game needs to go away.
