I feel like I have to repeat myself because the last time I posted this I don't think I got a reply. But somehow you feel the need to bring up this topic in yet another thread.
Where I stand on certain issues:
A good public schooling system - Yes.
A public health coverage for all - Yes.
Public options for the most essential comodities such as power, water and mail - Yes.
More state funded scholarships - Yes.
Republican or Democrat? - 50/50 Currently more in favor of the Democratic party.
Obama Criticism - Too premature. He's hardly been in power for a year.
But since I believe in having the free market as the main principle of running the economy (with regulations and certain exceptions) I suppose I can be nothing but ultra right wing.
Socialism isn't necessarily about greater freedom. It's about more security. If you own a business, let's say you had a great idea and decided to start something in your garage, socialism would in fact restrict your freedom.
As for schools, insurance etc., having both a public and private options would be a good compromise between security and freedom of choice.
Keep this in mind. There is no poverty, just a lack of wealth. You can't crank out poverty like you can crank out wealth. Eradicating poverty is a complete misnomer. It's not something you can destroy. You have to generate wealth.
If you haven't figured out why just about every attempt at Communism has led to Totalitarianism, this discussion is pretty pointless because when I have a discussion I assume the other party actually has a functioning brain.
