Yep, I know where you live now so you better behave....

Updated my mini-site www.spyber.com a bit now, so now it also (hopefully) recognizes your ISP, your state/region and city... :cool:

The Region/City database I'm using now isn't the best, but I've planned to get a much better one soon to increase the accuracy.
(60%-80% accuracy on region and city now)

Also going to add a link to Google Maps soon that will jump directly to your city (based on the Lat/Long).

The signature tool and Google Gadget will also include city/region and ISP options soon as well.

Nice, eh?? :D

Well Captain, while it does not concern me that you know where I post from, as it is your Site, just why would I want the rest of the World, or even the other Members of the group to know where I post from?

The info isn't visible to anyone else than you, so there's nothing to worry about there.. :smil:

According to this I live in Austria - Wien :-D
It’s good that it’s not showing my real location. 8)

Nothing new. You can be tracked very easily on the internet. It's the main downside of using this fantabulous invention.

The location displayed is where the ISP head office is located, or any other official registered company address. Spyber dislocated me by 1,312 kilometers.

I was not happy for the request of accessing the clipboard when executing the website, any particular reason for that, Redleg?

This little piece of javascript code did it.. :smil:
Code:
<Script Language="JavaScript">
var content = clipboardData.getData("Text");
clipvalues.clipboardarea.value = content;
</Script>
It's just there do demonstrate how insecure the clipboard content is in IE.

What browser are you using by the way??
Opera?

IE7 and Opera on a two screen system. Tested Spyber with IE7 and the request for access popped up immediately - if you want access to my clipboard you will find nothing but bug reports :smil:

The security "flaw" that was introduced in IE5, and continued to work in IE6 seems to be corrected now.. :smil:
The standard settings in IE5 and 6 made the clipboard content available to everyone one using that JavaScript code, unless you manually changed the browser settings (and not many knows how to do that... :? )

The database I'm using now is a free and apparently not a very good one.. :smil:
I guess you get what you pay for.. :D

But the (paid) one I'll be getting soon seems to be pretty good, and it doesn't just locate the ISP main office but also contains info on the geographical area/city that the IP (range) is used in..

What about now, any better?? :cool:

I've added a commercial geo IP database now that should be much more accurate than the free one I had there before.
In many cases it doesn't just show you the location of your ISP, but also the general area where your IP is used (normally within a 25 mile radius, or better).
And I've also added a Google map there, just to show what area your IP belongs to..

Pretty cool eh?? :D

Still some miles off (and in the wrong county) but it is hard to pinpoint the exact location of an IP address, it's getting better :D

It should be pretty accurate within a 25 mile radius, would need an incredible big and complex database to get it more accurate than that.. :smil:

But it's a pretty neat thingy anyway, right?? :cool:

The 25 mile radius is pretty accurate (I have to stop watching CSI where they locate IPs down to 1 meter distance), so you may say "It is good to be right" and I will buy you a beer (if you show up at John Dee on the 16th of May :mrgreen: ).

Well its well off for me, wrong island, wrong side of the country and roughly 600 miles (as the crow flies) off target so its probably more than acceptable if its using North Korean missile technology.

:)
