Velodrome d’Hiver today: Paris Holocaust location Then (1942) & Now
While millions visit Paris every year, very few realize that a quiet residential area near the Seine hides the tragic legacy of the 1942 Rafle du Vél' d'Hiv. More than 13,000 Jews were held inside the Vélodrome d'Hiver cycling stadium before being sent to the death camps. Since the massive arena was entirely wiped from the city map in the 1950s to make way for modern buildings, visualizing the scale of this tragedy on the ground today is extremely difficult. I decided to bridge this gap by creating a detailed visual and historical breakdown of the site. I walked the former grounds, matched rare historical blueprints and photos with the modern streets, and documented the entire timeline — from the stadium's glory days to its dark WWII history and the quiet memorials that stand there today.
