US in East Timor?

I guess it took a back seat to Afgahnistan/Iraq/Dijbouti/Georgia and all our other endevours. What was the problem there anyway?
 
Back in '99, insurgents formed local militias (or at least violently active ones) after East Timor passed a vote of independence from Indonesia.
