Personal experience indeed.

In the 1970s a British vessel suddenly disappeared in the Barents Sea, none of the crew survived.

Name the vessels name and the date the vessel disappeared.
 
February 1974 is correct Mighty, but Caistor is not the name I am thinking of.

Clue: The homeport was Hull.
