Russian Military of Now and Near Future

Russia still has some good stuff in their military technology.

It is always good to know some more about the army of a major country.

Hope we all can put some stuff about current Russian Forces's structure and strength here, if you are interested in it.
 
Cutting edge military tech from Russia always has a few central themes:
1) Only a handful of them were built due to lack of funds and hopes to attract customers from abroad to make ends meet.
2) Only one prototype flew until the program was scrapped due to lack of funds.
3) It was mothballed at the design stage when it was deemed there was a lack of funds for such a project.

There are lots of good weapons in the Russian weapon plants but they need maby 10 years more of finance recover before they can come out with more then only export vehicles to other countries and few modern weapons in top condition in there own army. Things may change faster then we belive so I would not swear with my hand on the bibel that Russia need 10 more years. Everything can change fast this days and that is what makes this éra so interesting I think. Today Gold is on the run tomorrow maybe plastic film is the most valuable thing on earth? Who knows? :)

Name a post-Soviet high tech weapon that was successfully mass produced. Major upgrades count as well I guess.
But if I must have a source, it was "Sukhois, MiGs and Tupolevs" from Osprey press I think.

Isn't the SU-47 Berkut a post-Soviet design?

The Russians are utterly obsessed with keeping up with the USA in military tech. If they had the same level of interest in non-military tech, their people would be in a lot better sorts. Also, as was stated, they lack the funds to mass-produce a lot of their brilliant ideas.
 
Yup. I don't disagree that they make some pretty good designs. Don't think they're as good as advertised... for example, there is simply no way Russia right now can pump out a fighter jet that is on par with the F-22. That's simply fantasy.
But still their latest Sukhois, when outfitted with modern avionics are superb airplanes. Just that anything after the Su-27, the Russians don't have a lot of them... mainly prototypes and technology experimenters.
 
just wait soon Russia will overtake Saudia Arabia in oil production and with todays oil prices you can make a lot of money.
 
Yup but they've still got miles and miles of rusting infrastructure to upgrade. You know that 50% of the trans siberia pipeline transported oil is lost during transit?

I just dont understand y do u ppl look for power in weapons,weapons are just the tools,the real weapon is not man made its man him self,same with 1999 bombing over here,we had nothing and afterall we backed off mightier NATO force.the point is that its not the weapons that win the war its man
