GENEVA — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) made its first visit to detainees of the Iraqi government since the U.S.-led invasion of the country, a spokeswoman said yesterday.
The ICRC has been able to visit detainees of U.S.-led forces in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, but it took three years of negotiations with Iraqi authorities for similar access to their prisons. The visit took place at the beginning of October at Fort Suse in the Kurdish north.
