Random thought of the moment...

Love doesn't even exist. There's only attachments associated with benefits of being with someone or thing, or the thought of it. Believing in love is like believing in Santa Claus. It's a make believe. Thinking that it exists makes us all warm and happy and romantic and silly, and we like that. WE make it up, otherwise it's fully unreal.

But of course that's not how I feel about the issue all the time. :smil:
That's rather pessimistic......

I'm in love with the idea that love doesn't exist. :smil:

No, I do believe in love in certain ways. Like a proper mother's love for her child. There's actually a physical bond in there, and the emotional connection that holds them together can be tested and verified. That is often a lot, a lot more genuine than the 'romantic love' between spouses. Your girlfriend can tell you that she loves you, and really mean it, but then cheat on you while you're away, and when you come back, continue to "love" you. That'd be her interpretation of love; doing it with a man at a time. I think that's messed up.

Yes, yes, it doesn't exist. It's much simpler that way.

True, but I also believe in the genuine idea of love... I mean... There's a definite difference between liking being around someone and loving them... I mean, my grandmother and grandfather recently celebrated their 60th anniversary... What is that if not love?

Uhmm, lack of options? Getting stuck? Extreme procrastination? Fear of the family, society, of a stigma? Responsibility of having kids, keeping a family together? Once you're past a point it's easier to stay together and call it "love" than go out and look for alternatives? LOL. Yeah, there are of course exceptions. Likewise with my grandparents and parents, both are solid, smooth marriages of decades. But is it really love? Or simply the result of a set of natural axioms?

I'll never know.

But. I think every man, every single one of us, will have at least one point in his life where he'll stop believing in love. Guaranfookinteed. :smil:

Ouch... Well, to each his own... I can't advocate gay rights and then turn around and argue that a supernatural phenomenon exists. LOL

I personally believe in love, I just don't know if I've found it.

I guess there's a little paradox here. How can you logically believe that something exists beyond a reasonable doubt if you've never discovered it before? But then, how can you ever discover something if you don't believe that it exists and look for it? :shoothea:

Well, it's the same reasoning that gives we Christians our faith in God... We cannot prove God exists.. But we choose to believe that He does. Quite honestly, I CANNOT accept that this world is the end of the line... We have to have a greater purpose... Something to look forward to...
