Sci Fi implies fiction, do you really know what science is? Have you done the epistemology to reach this knowledge? The people disliking Sci Fi can actually be more scientific than those who do. Maybe following the ontological concept makes these people to dislike Sci Fi? Have you been thinking about that?

"Overly macho culture"...um...what did you expect? We are in the business of killing and being killed. We take our jobs deadly serious because if we don't people get killed unnecessarily. Some of the most level headed and intellectual people reside in the professional military's of the world.
You are confusing a culture that doesn't like to put up with idiots and BS for anti-intellectualism. We don't take kindly to whiners or people who post a bunch of arbitrary content with the expectation that any dissenting idea's about it are wrong or coercive.
