Israel / Hamas ceasefire?

you're right, of course. sorry if i seemed to over-react. in a former life, for a number of years, i was a journalist, myself, and i tend to pour out editorials regarding what i think as if i'm building a case for something--which i'm not. i'm trying to figure this thing out, myself, and i tend to think in print (when i'm unable to communicate verbally). i am constantly struck by the contrasts in these countries.
I had dinner with a colleague tonight, a Middle East expert, and he describes my situation here--a single American woman, a professor--as existing in this society as a sort of quasi-man, rather than as a woman in the culture (that's, of course, unless i'm mistaken for a Jordanian, which i often am). i hadn't thought about it that way before, but it feels right.

No worries, my question is why are you surprised by the contrasts? The countries in the Middle East are artificial. I'm not too sure if it was deliberate to make sure that there were 2 or 3 ethnic minorities & 1 ethnic majority - but that's what I think.

So do you / Sherman and anyone else actually think that Hamas and Israel can get closer? What do you make of the talks with Fatah? Could this be a 2 State / 3 Power solution?
