How effective is JROTC?

I want to know what people think of it, especially those who were in JROTC and then went into the military. I have met a couple of soldiers who were in JROTC. They did not impress me too much, but I know not to judge a group by a few bad apples. My question is

How effective is JROTC?

In my younger troubled days I had to go through it and I thought it was a joke. I learned more sitting in the mess hall on base as a 8 year old.

It depends on how seriously the person takes it. I know a few people in JROTC and they are far from a better person for it. If anything they're just as bad or worst. But I'm sure we could say that about anything.
