Ya ever wonder why grunts are called grunts?:-?

well, I know Bernard Edelman for the Vietnam War ( http://www.warandtactics.com/smf/vietnam-war/my-tour-of-duty-interview-'soundtrack'/ ) branded it, but I imagine it has to do with the sound that you utter when it´s hard to be digging in?

It's a fighting hole or fighting position. Calling it a fox hole is gonna get you grief in boot camp.

Because the Corps doesn't have foxholes they have fighting holes.

I think it's because they "grunt" with all of the stuff they have to carry...

The British Army are called pongo's, Where the Army goes, the pongo's (the pong goes) or Brown Jobs, RAF are called Penguins, Crabs or Blue Jobs and the Royal Navy, Matelots.

In the German Army they are called "Klapp-Spaten Paulis" (normaly written in one word, literally translated = folding spade Pauls), because of the digging.

We call them fighting positions as well, cant say I have heard somebody call it a fox hole. Normally its going to be a hasty because of time.
