Al-Qaeda "Intranet" Goes Dark After Leak

A great opportunity for the new age Kevin Mitnicks of cyber space.

I think this type of subject intrigues me mainly because of its staggering incomprehensibility to mere mortals like myself. The article you posted on the Dark Web Project was very interesting, but about my limit I'm afraid.

There's a lot of things in this war that we're just beginning to understand. Way too many. And people are using the power of hindsight to overly criticize those in the fight.

IT'S A **** UP, PURE AND SIMPLE ...

TI
I hate to disagree with you ... but ... as Infern0 said ...

"IT'S A **** UP, PURE AND SIMPLE".

SITE has been eavesdropping on chat rooms and other AlQaeda sources through this particular portal for a long time without them having any idea their 'secrets' were being intercepted. SITE had gotten much invaluable information and had passed it on to US intelligence agencies (even to the Whitehouse), and now that someone has committed a treasonous act, that deprives us of an unknown [to AlQaeda], intelligence source.

To think that AlQaeda will just start another portal site is just a little naive ... whenever an information leak has been disclosed to AlQaeda in the past, they cease what they were doing and start doing business in a totally different manner.

Of course you would disagree with me Chief, you do on everything. I am sticking by my comments because of what I know.

It is certainly true that everything is easy in hindsight, never more so than in our current situations. How different will it look when they are finally played out and history has spoken. It is a grand long-game we are involved in. As I always try to reflect, I pity our leaders. My ol' poisoned chalice springs to mind. Anyone fancy it ??

this is the greatest time in modern history to be a young leader. there is so much more on your plate to deal with today then ever before..

C'mon on ... a little input please ...

That's not true, I don't ALWAYS disagrree with you ... and to say "what I knew" as to why you are sticking to your other comment, is a crock.

How about a little fact/input instead? Also, what portion of MY comment don't you agree with, and why? The type of comment you just made, causes scepticism in many of us and brings out the type of comment I just now made. For sure YOU wouldn't let ME get away with doing as you have just done.

I am NOT trying to start a war, my comments are in the way of a simple observation and request for clarification.

Sorry Chief, that is about as far as I can go. Please see my PM. I can't give you the facts you seek. Not that I won't... I just can't, and I hope you can understand that.

Chalk it under OPSEC.

Why do you consider it a great time to be a 'young' leader. And leaders of what? Teams, groups, states, armies, nations, world's ? And do you consider it a great time to be Geo W Bush? As I asked before, 'fancy his job'?

I am interested in your viewpoint.

I must admit that I was of the same opinion as Chief Bones, (in Aces and Spades) however I must give Team Infidel the benefit of the fact that he is a currently serving member of the US forces and as such hears and sees things not normally available to the public.

I also am aware that many things are not always what they appear to be in the intelligence world, some times information or sources are sacrificed for reasons only know to those involved. So I too will leave it at that.

Senojekips, just because someone says that they are given Special Intel, that they are allowed to openly say they have on a Public Internet Site, and, that they cannot tell the rest openly because of a "Security Issue" does not mean that they are not merely trying to cover for a Political Mistake at the highest level.

Gator, this is always a possibility.

I am not a great fan of people who are so artless as to allow their views to be shaped purely along political lines. I have the greatest respect for TI, (as i do for all members until they prove they are unworthy of it) and therefore I feel his post must be given the benefit of the doubt.

young leaders for me = young Lieutenants and Captains as well as young NCO's.. They are the next generation that will get us out of the leadership blackhole we are currently in. They get to see what NOT to do. but we digress from the specific topic. We can take it to another thread if you wish.

Tail chaser ...

You can double that in spades as far as I am concerned ... there are still issues and classified information from Vietnam that are over forty years old, that I still haven't been cleared to divulge ... so I can sympathise as to where TI is coming from.

Like I told him, it's like chasing your tail
big_headed_tiny_dog_chasing_tail_lg_wht.gif
trying to remember what has been cleared and what hasn't (even now).

Thankfully here in Australia we have what is known as the 30 year rule, which simplifies it all for persons such as myself. Not that I had any great knowledge of classified info anyway, and that which I did see, would not be of any interest to anyone any way, mainly technical stuff that has long lonnnnnggg outlived it's usefulness.

Why bring anything on the matter up to begin with in defense, then only to say that he is forbidden from getting into it?

Why not just stay on the sidelines if getting into things is, or could be a Security Issue? Seems to me the better way to go about things when Security is, or could be a concern.

No doubt the same info is now available all over the internet, and I would have though that it was originally posted along with many other News items purely as an item of general interest. But that's me, I just read it at face value.

I may well have quite strong opinions on it , but I don't always react accordingly as I realise that there is no benefit in me doing so. I post my comment and pretty much leave it at that.

Perhaps my Post was not clear.

Why have (TI) bring anything on the matter up to begin with in defense, then only to say that he is forbidden from getting into it?

Why not just (TI) stay on the sidelines if getting into things is, or could be a Security Issue? Seems to me the better way to go about things when Security is, or could be a concern.

I'm sure that I did read you correctly Gator, but I still believe that items of general interest can be posted by anyone without the need to get deeply involved. There are probably many things we all see both on TV and here on the forum that have possible security implications if you attempt to look at them in great detail.

A good example of thiswas the recent post on the foul up in loading weapons with nuclear warheads on an aircraft which then flew across the US. I'll guarantee that there were security matters known to some of our members relating to this episode that could not be openly discussed on a forum such as this.

I personally feel that when security is at stake the matter should not be questioned. Yeah, I don't deny that it could be used by some to support their argument or at least prevent it from being disproved and in such cases it must come down to one's opinion of the source. In this case, as I stated earlier, I have no possible reason to question this source.
