Not sadistic, cold and calculating…

The terrorist want us to broadcast these kidnappings/executions so we will want retribution. They want us to be sickened and put pressure on the government to do something drastic. The terrorist want us to act heavy-handedly, so they can gain insurgency support. The media is smart enough not to become a medium for the terrorists to intimidate and coerce the American people.
