It was more or less "the family business." Both my grandfathers were in 1914-18 (Gallipoli and the Western Front). A great uncle was in the Australian Infantry and was killed at Mont St Quentin in 1918. My paternal grandfather served in WW2 as a Colonel in the Middle east and New Guinea. My father was in the Australian 9th Division at Tobruk and El Alamein. An Uncle was killed frying Liberators in the RAAF over Europe. A great aunt was in the Army Nursing Service and drowned on the Hospital Ship Centaur after it was torpedoed by the Japanese.
