Marching in formation.

Gentlemen, I am trying to find a manual on marching in formation. I have checked various sites that have US military manuals, but no luck.

I would like something that covers individual level maneuvers, company (or small-medium group) level maneuvers, and large formation maneuvers. It would be even better if it had a section on manuevers used in the blackpowder age, for fighting in formation.

I figured that people here would know where to look now.

Thank you for reading,

The U.S. Army is in the process of updating it's manuals. The current D&C (Drill nad Ceremonies) manual is FM3-21.5. A google search will likely get you some hits. It has been approved for public distribution. The U.S. Army has not trained large formation movements for a while. Been in 21 years and I have seen them used only for parades or pass in review.

Go marching about on a "battlefield," and you'll all be dead pretty quick.
They're not big neat squares one marks off to have a fight in.

I believe the request is for close order drill or formations which are for moving troops around posts and on roads in orderly fashion.

This can be quys enteraining and impressive for everybody but the guys doing it.

Interesting they are giving it up-it helps with discipline in some ways.
