Has contracting the contracting of military support gone too freaking far, in my humble opinion it has. I think we should begin bringing back the enlisted service member.

What do you guys think contractors are not cheaper or better they are just there to make money for share holders and themselves of course.

It has gone to far. Corporations like Blackwater International answer to no one, have no rules and are linked to severval human rights violations. Heck, a merc company is linked (friendly fire related death) in the death of a poor Canadian soldier in Afghanistan (rest his soul).

All in all, private mercinary companies are more expensive and not necessary for victory. Everything they do can be accomplished by Marines and Soldiers.

Sometimes the contractor's can do things the military cannot as they are not not obligated by the Geneva convention. Obviously, the problem comes from the military not being able to control them at times.

Your comment seems to be suggesting that it is OK to have “contactors” for the army to have “friends” to work outside the Geneva Convention. I was hoping this is not your point of view until I read some other replies you have posted. :shoothea::shoothea::shoothea:

As we say eish, very sad day when people who call themselves soldiers (or veterans for that matter) act like this.

When some one says contractors every one thinks BW and other PMCs but the fact is every support function is being contracted that enlisted technicians are not working on equipment to the level they once were.

For example I know an Army guy who works on field radios (his MSO) he was ordered to train civilian contractors to do his job when he first go to Iraq now that the civilians are trained he is on the fence line doing patrol duties no longer a technician.

The PMC is just the end result of years of taking the technician out of the military and replacing him with a civilian. I could go on and on all day but got to go.

Problem is that most of the PMC's don't answer to the military perse. They are contracted by DOD or State. The military really doesn't enjoy having them in country.

As far as the service contractor's it's over blown. Why should we pay a truck driver 80,000 grand and the poor PFC that's escorting gets E-2 scale plus the add ons.

True enough Gunny. Usually, I would say thats right on. I doubt many military folks are complaining if the military did as they were talking of doing when I was getting out in regards to civvies running the chow halls. Marines hated that crap. Yes indeed, very frustrating to know civvies are making big time money like that doing less than but similar to the same job our troopies (E1-E3) do.

I have no problem with American soldiers.

Blackwater, on the other hand, should be destroyed. They get paid more than American soldiers, get easier jobs, and give America a bad name when they make mistakes.

Yes, it has gone way too far.

I don't get why we are using security companies like Blackwater. In fact, I don't understand why we have them working alongside our troops at all. They're like glorified security guards for rich folks with interests over there. Executive Outcomes, though, they took over countries on their own. Seems like we should only use mercenaries if there is a reason the military can't get involved, not when we already have troops on the ground.
