The Future of the Pesh Merga

Whispering Death

Pesh Merga, or "Those who face Death" where the militia of the Kurds that protected their unoficial and realtional independence from Saddam's Iraq. But what do you think should happen to them in the new Iraq?

Officially there is no longer a Pesh Merga, supposedly there is only the Iraqi National Guard. However, the Pesh Merga militia is still around and have proven quite usefull in keeping the peace in the Kurdish territories and helping secure such cities as Mosul. But again, officially they shouldn't exist anymore.

So what do you think?

Personally, I'd like to see the Pesh Merga develop into a branch of the military much like the U.S. Marines. In this manner you can keep the Pesh Merga around and retain that Espri de Corps of a tenured and heritiged fighting force.

So what say you?

The United States would not possibly allow a Saddam-era Militia to resurface legally.
