I dont see the original post as "bait" and to be fair Rab's original post I think was a good reply however where things went wrong is his decission to switch from attacking the advertising company that came up with the advert to attacking an entire country where the majority didnt even know the advert existed until yesterday and that is country bashing.

Describeing our president as "worse than h**l" with blood running from the eyes and 666 written across the forehead would work to well here in America.

the 666 and the blood was added by a protester who, i guess, didn't actually read the billboard...so really without the "additions" it may be a little less offensive.

there are two versions too. one that says "hell, too good for some evil bastards" (which i think is a bit too strong), and the other version say "even hell has standards"

The poster really shows how unimportant your nation is, couldnt of you just used your own political figures. No, because your figures have no power in the world so its pointless to make fun of them. Its ooooh so much more fun to make fun of someone that close to no-one in your country likes. The fact you even know who Mr. Bush is shows how important he is. I dont know the NZ prime minsiter nor do i particuarlly care. For you all to come in here and say oh its so "ballsey" or "hip" or "great advertiseing" instead of noticeing how truly low-taste and just filthy this "advertisment" is. It kind of proves how us Americans really are the classiest and most moral (besdies the vatican) country in the world. I think if i went out into the streets and burnt up a NZ flag (not that they would know what it looked like) i think people would think it was rather absurd and stupid. Not hip and takes balls of steel.

well, i'm not going to take offence at that (after all you did edit it) but i will make a few commens;

this sort of advert is a particularly "kiwi" thing...we have a great irreverence when it comes to our own leaders, and i think if it wasn't an election year here the ad could've been quite clearly done with a local leader.
advertising for me is also a personal thing...i write ads and it's very hard for advertising material to get my attention any more...this one did.
Bush is a very big target...a very easy one too, for people outside of the US. he's not our leader after all, we got no say in his election so where's the harm in our "taking the piss" out of him.

most porn comes from the US, catholic preist sex scandels, sports doping, a hell of a lot of crime...are you really trying to say that they are part of a more "moral" society? it's good to avoid sweeping generalisations...both positive and negative ones

The double standard on this board is kind of sad. Anything Americans do and people disagree with its fine. As soon as American says something or disagree withs something in a foreighn country, its wrong and country bashing. Maybe i said some things i shouldnt have, but i think anything i said hails in comparison to things said about americans on this board.

if i was to come on and condemn the entire US for the actions of a few people, yeah, i would expect it to cross country bashing lines. this is what you did. you condemned AN ENTIRE COUNTRY as being unimportant, due to the actions of a pizza company....hmmmm.

it shouldn't make you think any less of bush (i'm sure it wont) after all...it's just a billboard in an "unimportant" country.
