This is my latest story about my active time in the German Military...

Friday i wanted to celebrate my promotion to Lt with my family. We went to Dinner at "Die Schiffergesellschaft" in Lübeck.
And I made a terrible mistake- I took the train to get there...
As i stepped out the Subway, a group of 30 ppl looked at me fiercely, they were members of the "black block", a left radical movement on the way to demonstrate against sth (it was German Unification Day). I was lucky that Police was present, they had to escort me to the Rails...

I met about 6 ppl while waiting for my train to come:

1st: talked to a friend of his about me in 3rd person and started a discussion with him about how bad german military is... I told him that it is not very polite to speak of ppl in 3rd person who can hear one, he just looked at me like a zombie- I walked away.

2nd: asked me where the next train to xy goes, I could help him...
3rd: Asked me where the service point of the Train Station was, again I could help her.

4th: Asked me about some train to some place i'd never heard before, I just answered that i'm with the German Air Force not German Railways... she just walked away without saying anything.

5th: Asked me if the train coming in goes to xy, i could answer it but said "...but why are you asking me?", she answered "because the train has no info on it..."

6th: Asked me about some Info about trains again... Again I helped.

That was my first day as Lieutenant on a public Railway Station in my Country...

Sorry to hear that you suffered from 'uniform confusion'.
Happens with the Aussie airforce guys that are confused with traffic parking inspectors and bus conductors!!!
Must be a universal airforce thing! TIC.

It could just be that you were at a train station and people tend to trust people in uniform more than your average "Radical left wing" protest group.

Aren't they supposed to be non responsive towards people with any kind of uniform? Anyway.
The Marine uniform here often gets mistaken for a North Korean uniform. hehehehe. Never had the confusion happen to me personally but I've heard many stories, including one from my grandmother who nearly shat herself when she saw some guys in the Marine uniform walking around and she thought it was North Korean. Less than a year later, her grandson walks in the door wearing the same outfit. hehehe.
