What rank was he when he performed his act that merited the Medal of Honor?
 
Okay for two points what was the name of the valley in Tennesse that York was from and who was the famous frontiersman who settled it.

One point. You got the valley. The frontiersman was Daniel Boone. There was a tree near where York grew up on which had been carved the words "Daniel Boone kilt a bar here". It was still visible to York many, many years later. He brought settlers to the Pall Mall.
 
Head of the Regional/District Selective Service Board. War Bond Tours. All after FDR and George Marshall turned down his offer to serve "with regret".

It was Camp later Fort Gordon.

Yep, ironic as hell that the man who had such reservations about military service to start with should wind up head of his local draft board.
