Russian Navy specnaz units "Dolphin" and several others, can fight on land if needed

but their primary environment is water, on and under.

Their weapons for underwater combat are SPP pistol

and APS rifle

They also have portable submersibles they can use to transport small, usually 2 man, teams to, for example, place explosives on the bottom of a ship

They used to, in the Soviet days, also have small mini-submarines that carried whole units of them behind enemy lines and such. Yeltsin scrapped them all. Bastard. They say if the "Dolphins" still had their mini-subs in 2000, they could have rescued the crew of the "Kursk", including my uncle... Yeltsin was a ****ing useless drunk pig. But, I am going off topic. In any case, I've read in Russian military media Putin now wants to build some new ones like that for them. Understandable, him taking a personal interest: a team of these guys deploys underwater around his yacht when he goes out into the sea to go fishing or something lol Because, God forbid some assassin jumps out at him from the water lmao

Russian equivalent to US SEALs? No? What do you guys think? It interests me because Russia is my parents' country, plus, it may happen I, as a Canadian Forces reservist and potentially active duty soldier, may have to face those men in battle some day. Not something I am looking forward to, by the way, to be entirely honest. Those fellows look pretty badass... They are popularly called Sea Devils, and many consider them the toughest of all specnaz, and that says a lot IMHO

Not bad, they actually look like they get deacent funding!!!

Military spending in Russia is constantly increasing
rep_273_072-4_jpg_625x625_q70.jpg

(that's projected defence spending as percentage of all Russian Federal budget spending)

They've created a new type of combat uniform that supposedly will protect soldiers from fire and even stop shrapnel

Today, those are only for elite units. Supposedly, in a couple years, all Russian troops will look like that though.

They are even working on their own drones, mostly spies and such thus far

The Yakovlev's Pchela-1T is already widely in use

And there are big combat drones under development too, from what I understand the "Skat" ("Stingray") by MiG and Sukhoi together

and Tranzas' Dozor 600

though neither of those are actually flying yet.

But, yeah, Putin is a militarist, and he is trying hard to build himself a powerful military machine...
