You US guys have a sense of what is "safe" or what has to be done to reach "safety" that is way distorted from our Euro POV.

My reaction during when the 2nd tower had not yet fallen was: "Thats the end of the free world as we know it" still holds true, and it has not made us any "safer".

Sure not, but if you can make the medias gag themselves in order not to breach a patriot act, it's easy to convince the majority of the people that you are making progress towards a safer world...
 
"Self-censorship" is also a word I only learned due to US (media) reactions after S-11, has it made it into the official dictionaires yet?
