Man finds pre-Rev War fort inside his house

So was this thing an actual fort or a fortified structure as in a strengthened building.

Probably more of a blockhouse type fortification to provide protection to a limited number of people. Article mentions 3 foot thick walls.

Amazing what is still out there to find.
