This week's Website of the Week is only for kids, but they can't join without parental approval. Imbee.com is restricted to kids 8 to 14, but interaction with other members requires parental verification and approval. A credit card will do, but because the site is free. Mom and dad can fax their driver's licenses -- or simply make an old-fashioned phone call. One cautionary note: Wired magazine reported on Jan. 31, 2008, that the Federal Trade commission simultaneously filed and settled a lawsuit against Imbee for privacy violations. Imbee allowed children to register using their full name, date of birth and e-mail address. Imbee claimed that, as a new company, it didn't know any better. Because it had violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, it paid a $130,000 fine. The company says it has destroyed the personal information.
