How to paint?

does anybody know what I'm supposed to do before painting the walls in my house? I guess I should clean them, but what else should I do, especially if the original color is darker than the new color (white) that I want to paint it?:avi:

As the new colour is lighter, a lighter undercoat will be needed as the new lighter colour will need a lot more coats to cover the old dark colour. ;)

A friend of mine who is fluent paint and flooring spoke to me about Interior Valspar being good stuff, use the one with the Primer already in it. "Paint and Primer in One" Or something like that.

hi Lady
I had the same problem,so the first thing i did was to clean the wall and then applied 2-3 coats of white color,i was lucky to have light background color, that saved the day.
cleaning/scrubbing may help if the previous color is dark shade one.
