AP - Senate Democrats have retreated from adding new privacy protections to the nation's primary counterterrorism law, as Republicans refused to lend support and portrayed the majority as willing to harm terror investigations.

Is this really a retreat? As the Democrats are as much to blame for passing the orginal Patriot Act as the Republicans. Is wanting to change it now just half hearted remorse by a few?
