Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew the total number of troops that landed on D-day.

On D-Day, the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy. The American forces landed numbered 73,000: 23,250 on Utah Beach, 34,250 on Omaha Beach, and 15,500 airborne troops. In the British and Canadian sector, 83,115 troops were landed (61,715 of them British): 24,970 on Gold Beach, 21,400 on Juno Beach, 28,845 on Sword Beach, and 7900 airborne troops.

Hey, just wanted to give some thanks for the info. I have to say that this site is filled with people that know their stuff, and are willing and able to share it. I belong to several other forums, mainly dealing with writing, but none of them are as quick with responses. This site also features members that actually do the leg work, meaing they tell you what you're looking for, instead of simply saying "search for it in google or yahoo". Thanks guys!

Well Saving Private Ryan was not REALLY about D-day, rather about one man and a unit. It involved only Omaha beach so it would have been historically inaccurate to have masses of British troops storm the beach.
People just have to realize that: Saving Private Ryan was not a historical movie about D-day.

Apologies to the UK and Canada for the nonexistant mention of UK or Canadian Troops . In totally fictional movie based around the 6 June 1944 assault on Omaha Beach as part of Operation Overlord. By the 29th ID and elements of the 2nd Rangers.

That is true, there were a lot of Canadians involved. If you really want to get down to it you can count the Poles, the Australians, the Dutch, the Norwegians and the New Zealanders involved, but mostly during D-Day the were involved in airborne ops and naval ops.
