The US Military, when fighting in conventional warfare, is the most powerful country in the world. You can make an argument for the British Navy, the Israeli Air Force, but the US is the all around best.
It's tough to fight guerilla warfare from our current position. It's what we're up against, and it's really kind of chewing us up. If we can turn this into our kind of fight (a "you kill one of us, we kill 10 of you" style of fighting, if you get my drift) we will win Iraq by the end of Bush's term in office. But good luck on getting that through either side of congress, Democrat or Republican.
If we ever get into another war (which I can almost guarantee happening within 20 years) God help the poor saps on the recieving end of whatever we throw at them.

We were never weak, we're just in a rough spot as the enemy is mixed in with civilians and strikes indirectly so a lot of our most powerful high-tech weaponry is useless.
