From what I've heard, most modern warships have little or no armour. Why? Surely there would want want the protection? Or am I mistaken, and they are heavily armoured?

I'm guessing they are counting on defensive weaponry. No amount of armor would stop the missiles available today. Better to neutralize em or take countermeasures.

Must be. Some are built to Commercial instead of Military standards. Some have alloy superstructures....
