ONE DAY, while my unit was on maneuvers in Egypt, we were given a pass and our captain informed us, "You will be tourists today. Dress like a tourist. No boots, no dog tags, no military dress. No one will suspect you are with the military. You will even ride on a civilian tour bus. No one will have any reason to think you are anything but tourists."
As we were getting off the bus at the pyramids, several Egyptians approached. They called out, "Hello, American GIs!"
