Vermont Lends A Hand

Charge 7

Master Gunner
I just thought I'd pass this along to you folks. It was on the local news tonight.

In preparation for Hurricane Rita's arrival Vermont was asked to send one ambulance and crew to help. We are a very little state - just 585,000 of us and our state and local emergency services organizations are already stretched very thin indeed. Why? Because a very large percentage of our emergency service personnel are also National Guardsmen and they are away in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I've proudly stated before that Vermont has the highest per capita amount of it's people in the armed services of all the states in the nation. That honor is high - so is the cost. But as strapped as we are, as much as we have given, when little Vermont was asked to send one ambulance and crew we didn't send one - we sent fourteen!
