In WWII,in Europe conscripts were called up by age :class 1920,1919,1918,etc...
As far I remember,in the US ,there was a lottery system,so that some one of 30 years could be called up earlier than some one of 20 years .
If my memory is not totally wrong,the general in charge of the system,was still in charge during the Vietnam war .
1)Are my assumptions true ?
2)If so,why did the US use this system and not the European one ?
