Many years ago a wise man told me “At least 60% of ALL people in the world are stupid and 90% of the rest are apathetic.”
The older I get the more I believe this to be true.
My local newspaper today has an article headlined U.S. ADULTS SCORE BELOW AVERAGE ON WORLDWIDE TEST.
The study is the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies conducted by the Economic Cooperation and Development and the Education Department’s Center for Education Statistics.
Over 157,00 adults (ages 16 to 55) from more than 20 industrialized countries were tested and the U.S. came in below the international average.
One finding reinforced just how large the gap is between the nations high- and low- skilled workers and how hard is to move ahead when your parents haven’t.
In reading and math those with college educated parents did significantly better than those whose parents did not complete high school.
Yet we still insist that all people are equal and we allow the “ignorant, unwashed masses” to vote. No wonder our government is dysfunctional.
We get what we deserve.
