They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into the already crowded auditorium. With rich maroon gowns flowing
and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.

Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears.

This class would not pray during the commencements ----- not by choice but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.

The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice, but they were routine......until the final speech received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened. All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!

The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, "GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you!" And he walked off stage...

The audience exploded into applause. The graduating class found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval.

This is a true story, just recently happening at the University of Maryland. It's inspiring.

If you find Tomtom's post laudable then you might like this one from Russia 70 years ago:

In a rural Russian village, a few years after the Russian Communist revolution, a team of Communist Party officials arrived and ordered all the villagers, and the local (Russian Orthodox) priest into the town hall. The communists introduced themselves and said they were there to "re-educate" the villagers on the virtues of marxism and the ills of capitalism and especially religion - and Christianity in particular. The sessions lasted hours and included charts, books, pamphlets, and a socialist propaganda films produced in Moscow.

At the end of it all, and guaging from the villagers' responsiveness, the communist party representatives felt pretty good and satisfied that they had won the people over to the benefits and logic of communism and had succeeded in turning them off religion.

As mentioned, the local priest, by compulsion, was also in the audience and he begged to say a few short words at the end of the sessions. The authorities from Moscow allowed him but warned him not to speak for long and to be careful not to say anything contrary to the State or the Party. He would be punished if he did. The priest agreed and simply just stood up and in a loud voice sang in Russian "Christ is Risen!" (a traditional chant used in both Orthodox and Roman Catholic liturgies every Easter).

Instantly, all the villagers in the hall rose to their feet and sang in response: "He is Risen, Alleluia! Alleluia!"

The Communist Party officials sank back in their chairs and looked at one another with disbelief.

Demonstrations of faith in God, even when it appears to be outlawed or eliminated by any type of secular authority, rarely truly is, because the former is always more powerful and enduring than the latter. Ideologies, and political correctness come and go, but faith in God lives on.
