Short walk long swim

In my second tour to Afghanistan the ARMY was trying to raise the standard for life at KAF. They had built modular buildings and where in the process of putting in a sewer system. All over the base where large 10 to 15 ft deep ditches for the new system, however this year was a record setting year for rainfall.

Of course everything turned into one big mud pit! As far as the ditches went they turned into small lakes. After some time everybody got used to the amount of standing water, and walking around the lakes. However, when it was time to remob, our new replacements knew nothing of the depths of the water. So one evening a SGT from the replacing brigade took a walk down the wrong road. Unfortunately, by the time I could warn the SGT he had already taken one step too many. After his first step he desperately tried to keep from sinking any deeper, but to no avail he just made the situation worse by dragging his LT in with him.

After the two swam to the other side the LT promptly started chewing the SGT's a** out. Asking why he had pulled him in too. Just following orders sir. The SGT seeing the LTs look of confusion simply replied you always say you never want your soldiers to go through something that you didn't want to go through with them. Didn't want to leave you out sir.[/b]
