S. Korea, Boeing Near Deal on 20 F-15Ks
SEOUL — South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and Boeing have completed protracted price negotiations over 20 F-15K fighters, awaiting final approval from the agency’s decision-making body, according to Boeing and DAPA officials.
The two sides signed a provisional contract Jan. 14 worth more than $2 billion for the multirole combat aircraft and associated equipment and services, they said.
The deal comes amid growing concerns about the safety of the F-15, following the U.S. Air Force’s recent decision to ground hundreds of its older F-15 models indefinitely due to structural flaws.
Boeing has assured South Korea that the most up-to-date F-15K fighters have different structures from the older models and thus are not affected by the groundings.
