Topic: Royal Navy launches first Type 45 destroyer

The first of six (possibly eight) Type 45 AAW destroyers launched today in the Clyde.

HMS Daring comes into service in 2009, and is designed to protect the fleet from air and missile attack. When it comes into operation, it will be the most powerful warship the Royal Navy has ever brought into service, with electrical propulsion and advanced missile and radar systems.

Two more of the D-class warships (Dauntless and Diamond) are currently under construction, three more are planned and rumour is that another two warships may be tendered for. Every fleet should have one.

It would appear that the New type 45 Destroyers are going to be more of a liability than an asset, yes they have chargers for the sailors i pods but the armament is some thing else. It would appear that the Government is buying all the equipment for this form European contractors which will cost twice as much for fewer systems. It would appear that we are spending a billion on a French missile system when a better one could have purchased from the states for £350 million. The Anti Aircraft missiles will also be French and it is reckoned that it is costing the British Tax Payer an extra 2 Billion pounds to to support the French Defence industries. Now our leaders have kept that very quite
