The problem was not the M1 Garand. It was the M1 Carabine. They do not use the same 7.62 round. The Carabine is much less powerfull and the round is not well shaped for penetration.

It wasn't the M1 Garand. It was the M1 Carbine firing the .30 caliber US Carbine round which was pretty close to being nothing more than a 32 Magnum. Troops in the ETO during WWII had the same problem engaging German troops in Winter Uniforms.
Most modern centerfire rifle cartridges loaded to modern standards will penetrate most body armor.

ha ha ha, yeah, I don't know why that's funny taken out of context either.
Alright, well I've got a better idea of bullet physics now, thanks guys. I had no clue that the M1 Carbine was so different from the M1 Garand, who was the idiot that gave them both the 'M1' designation?

First off, M16 isn't exactly "American Made" As you people know, it was first made in belgium. Even the beretta pistol is Italian. I've never seen a REAL ORIGINAL AMERICAN MADE assault rifle, but whats a REAL AMERICAN rifle is the M14.
Oh yah the m14, no better piece of crap to have. Mean recoil, one-hit kill.

M-16 was designed by Eugene Stoner at Armalite Division of Fairchild Aircraft. Manufactured by Armalite and Colt for the US Goverment. All in the US.
Maybe your thinking about the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon manufactured by FN in Belgium.
