Hello, I am here trying to get information for my husband.
He was in the marines about 4 years ago (before I knew him) I don't know much about his discharge other than it is an RE4 which i understand keeps you from getting back in. I have seen that it can be possible although unlikely to get a waiver. If that is true how should we start to go about this? also since he was in the marines should he try to go back to them or the army? any information would be very helpful and appreciated, thanks a lot |

Topic: re code 4
Im in a somewhat different situation than most of the posts on this thread talk about. I recieved an honorable discharge for medical reasons. and was given a re code of 4. The medical condition I was dicharged for deveolping a epidimal cyst on both epedimis. Now only reason i was discharged because i refused the surgery mainly because very high chance of infertility if have the surgery. If i have the surgery is it possible for an upgrade or possibility to be eligible again at some point to reenter service. Any info or insight would be appreciated

I've read all the way through this forum and still haven't found a response for the situation I've been through.
I separated from the Navy, 12 Nov. 2009 with an honorable discharge but with the RE-4 code. I've tried talking to several recruiters, reading forums, and even visiting the VA for answers. The only solution they came up with was to write a letter explaining my four years of good conduct. It was never explained even after contacting my direct chain of command and contacting the personnel office at the base. This January I received a letter stating that my contract would be up in 6 months, I'm assuming that this means that I will have a clean slate after this time. could someone give me some direction or insight on what I should do at this point. |

Topic: RE4
RE4 does not automatically mean dishonorable. I was discharged in 1975 with an Honorable Discharge from the Navy with an RE4 for sleepwalking. Was not told I was getting an RE4 didn't know till 3 years later when I tried to reenlist. Not proud of it, wish it had been different, but it happened.
