The Nightingale's Song

I just read The Nightingale's Song by Robert Timberg. It is a great book chronicling the life of five United States Naval Academy graduates and how the Vietnam War affected them. The five are John McCain, James Webb, John Poindexter, Ollie North and Bud McFarlane. It shows how the Naval Academy and, more importantly, Vietnam influenced their dealings in the Iran-Contra scandal. James Webb wasn't very involved in it, and John McCain had no part whatsoever, but they show the lives of others, though McCain has nothing to do with the others and seems just kinda tacked on.

Another large aspect of the book is the Reagan Administration and how it worked, which is very interesting. Reagan made almost no decisions, but just let his advisors fight it out.

Overall a superb book and a must read for anyone interested in Iran-Contra and why these men did what they did.
