DURING the Korean War I reported for a pre-induction physical, but returned to the same induction center a week later because I had decided to enlist in the Air Force rather than wait to be drafted. There was considerable confusion over whether or not I would have to undergo another physical. As I sat waiting, trying to look as dignified as anyone can who is sitting in a room in his birthday suit, one of the harried doctors who had given me my physical the previous week went by. He halted, a frown creasing his brow as he tried to remember me. Then it came to him. He wagged his head in disbelief. "Be patient," he said. "They'll get to you eventually."
