JDAM strike

Precision-guided munitions are an impressive thing, but they still have an angle to them on impact, it's just closer to vertical than dumb munitions.

If you pause the video right at 10:00 seconds and click through it one frame at a time you will see the "lump" coming down just to the left of the flag. I'd say about 5 degrees from vertical.

I think that angle is necessary since the bomb is continuously trying to navigate to its lased target.

What's the advantage of a vertical impact anyway? Other than perhaps to penetrate into a bunker or something?

Less collateral damage would be one.
More energy directly on target would be the other.
But I'm not exactly the air strike authority...
