WHILE I WAS in Army basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., our company commander put us through weekly inspections. We all failed the first inspection -- except one trainee whose weapon was exceptionally clean. He was asked who had taught him to clean a weapon so well. "My brother did, sir," was his answer.
"Was he in the Army?" our commander asked.
"No, sir!" replied the trainee. "He was a Marine, sir!"
