Yes Jules. I know a SSgt that was busted to Sgt and a couple years later had to get out because he had hit is 15 year mark or some such. Same goes for officers. I just dont know the time frames for all the ranks.

The last time I checked, you were booted from the Army as an enlisted if you did not make E-5 in 10 years.

As for officers, I believe the rule is that if you are passed over for promotion 2 times in a row, you are done.

Used to Ssgt in 12 but you could get a waiver depending on the availabity of Staff billets in your MOS. Miss it during your waiver period and your out.

You can join the British Army as a Private and stay at the same grade for over twenty years.
