THE FLAG

I wanted to submit an original poem for consideration for posting on the Military Poems page. Plus, remind all of the movie "TAKING CHANCE" showing this month (Feb-09) on HBO. Its a throat lump producer and a must see. Well here goes my poem:

THE FLAG

The band starts up
The Anthem plays
All eyes are on Old Glory
As she waves

Some mouth the words
Vets stand erect
Hands on hearts
Hats on chests

They know that flag
And what it means
They knew those who remained
And can no longer sing

"Those who traded all their
tomorrows for our todays"

The music stops
The game begins
Some seek out Old Glory now and then
But now its just to check the wind
